Can Girl Get Pregnant Even Before First Period?

Can Girl become Pregnant Even Before First Period?
YES. A girl can get pregnant even before her first period.

Teen pregnancy in ever growing now a days. Recent article on DailyMail.co.uk reported Colombian girl of age 10 got pregnant.

A prevailing belief (a misbelief rather) is that a girl who has not had her first period cannot get pregnant even with unprotected sex. That is completely wrong. The only relation between period, sex and pregnancy is having sex before period increases likelihood of pregnancy. Pre period time is most fertile time for having kids. Indications of pregnancy if no-period are after having sex, spotting and bleeding

What is Period?

Period is shedding of skin membrane located inside vagina. The skin membrane is medically known as endometrium. This occurs every month. Some females have irregular period.

First period of a girl is called Menarche. Menarche is indication of capability of reproduction for girls and ejaculation for boys.

What age a girl has period?

Average age of having first period is 12-13. But in some cases period has been reported quite early age. A Peruvian girl had her first period at age 3.

As long as pregnancy is concerned period is just highly fertile time. So what causes pregnancy? Ovulation is key process for pregnancy.

What is Ovulation?

Ovulation is about producing female egg. Ovary releases egg, those eggs pass in the fallopian tube to be fertilized. The eggs get fertilized by male cells called sperm. A girl may not have first period but, she might already be ovulating. If ovulation is there girl of any age can get pregnant.

What age a girl starts Ovulating?

This largly depend on biology and hormonal changes of girl. Hormonal changes triggers puberty. So, it is assumed that a girl starts ovulating with puberty.

How Does Pregnancy Occur?

Ejaculation by male within vagina is first step of pregnancy. Sperm fertilizes female eggs located within fallopian tube (generally known as vagina). Sperm cells can stay inside vagina for upto five days. So, sex five days before and after ovulation can make girl pregnant.

How to prevent pregnancy?

Use of condom is best bet for avoiding unintended pregnancy. Other methods are birth control pills (also known as contraceptive pills). There are number of birth control pills available. Plan B is emergency contraceptive. Generic Alesse, Depo-provera and generic Yasmin are popular birth control pills.

[Note: All birth control pills have different time to take because all the pills have different formulation and combination]

Sexual Dysfunction Likely in Women after Dialysis, says Studies

Dialysis for the treatment of renal impairment (kidney failure) in female may affect their sexual life, say experts. Recent research study found 4 of 5 female on dialysis had sexual dysfunction.

Dialysis has several side effects such as depression drugs, sleep disorder, pain and tiredness. Sexual dysfunction is latest side effect added in the list. Like chemotherapy, dialysis also affects one's quality of living.

However, how exactly dialysis cause sexual dysfunction is subject of further and dedicated study.

Lot of studies has been done on sexual health of men post hemodialysis. Ironically, few handful studies are there for females.

Dr Giovanni Strippoli and experts from Collaborative Depression and Sexual Dysfunction in Hemodialysis Working Group conducted study on 659 females who were on dialysis. Dr Strippoli inspected answers given by those women in a question paper. Questions were on changes they noticed in their sexual life post dialysis. Dr Strippoli is MD from Diaverum AB and Consorzio Mario Negri Sud, Italy.

Some participated women were sexually active, some were not and some had no partner for sexual activities. Sexual dysfunction was reported in 84% of all females, 55% of sexually active and none for women without partner.

The study is believed to be first of its kind at large scale which is focused to study sexual dysfunction in women after dialysis.

Further analysis found that likelihood of sexual dysfunction is more for old women, depressive women, women who passed menopause phase, diabetic women and women who took diuretic pills.

Female Sexual Desire Booster Drug To be Dicussed by FDA

Reproductive Health Drugs Advisory Committee of FDA is due to discuss the request made by Boehringer Ingelheim (A giant german pharmaceutical) to approve Flibanserin to increase libido in women. In pharmaceutical inductry the drug is known as female Viagra. Flibanserin, whose proposed names are Ectris and Girosa, may be the first of its kind medicine that stimulates and increases sex desire in females.

Desire of sex in women is outcome of more complex events than that of men. Apperently, Flibanserin won't work like viagra and it won't increase blood flow in female genital region. Flibanserin works by altering the chain of chemical reactions in the brain that finally result in increased sexual desire.

Unlike other proposed treatment such Intrinsa that releases testosterone through the skin into the blood, Flibanserin manipulates events of several reactions and that is why it is believed to be more effective.
Amy Allina, a member of National Women's Health Network, advocates the importance of such drug saying that sex life can be a problematic issue for some women in order to sustain healthy sex life and thereby happy marriage life.

Market of female viagra drug is estimated to be billions of dollars as its been more than 10 years since viagra was launched and no similar drug for females since then.

Genertic Hormone causing Hair Loss in Women is Found

Genome project, that is being carried out by U.S. Department of Energy and the National Institutes of Health would enable to cop up every single disease, be it mal-functioning of human organs or any hereditary defect. By the time the project is fully finished, some scientists across the world are mapping DNA, albeit on smaller scale, independently for particular health condition.

A research result represented by Australian scientists, at University of Melbourne, may lead to cure for baldness or hair loss in women. As per their claim a gene responsible to cause hair loss in women is found. The study included DNA mapping and comparison of two groups of females. Group one included women suffering from baldness and second group of women who were not suffering from hair loss.

Scientists concluded from the result of mapped DNA that DNA of women with hair loss defect has a gene called ESR2, a beta receptor of oestrogen. ESR2 gene causes hair loss by increasing hair follicles' sensitivity to the level of oestrogen in body.

However, the outcome of the study is in contrast of the belief that higher oestrogen level actually stops hair loss in women and stimulates hair growth as oestrogen ( a hormone found in females only) is opposite-counter-part of male hormone that causes male pattern hair loss.

The belief was cemented by articulating two facts that hair strands are found thicker when women are pregnant (oestrogen is at highest level during pregnancy) and hair loss occurs during post pregnancy especially during breastfeeding (oestrogen level is lower in breastfeeding time). But Prof Sinclair, co-author of research along with Dr Collins, points out that post pregnancy hair loss is temporary. Prime cause of hair loss in women is because of genetic and hormonal factors.

There is no approved cure in market that treats women hair loss. Baldness caused by male pattern hair loss can be treated by FDA approved hair loss drugs, such as propecia. Some of the other drugs like Proscar and Avodart are believed to be more effective than propecia and men are using them despite it is not approved drug for hair loss.
