FDA Pulls back the Medtronic Pump fill

Pump fills are directly injected into the stomach to treat stomach pain and spasticity. Spasticity refers to the distorted movement of the muscle tone that involves hypertonia. It has been seen that they can have really harmful effects and can cause death.

Whenever this drug is refilled, there is concrete feedback that assures that the needle is placed at the right place at the pump reservoir. It has also been seen that the Medtronic has further enlightened itself with the help of better knowledge provided by the in depth reviews.

Any under dose or overdose can lead to severe after –effects that can even lead to death. It has been reported that around eight death and other 270 cases of life threatening injuries have been caused from May 1996 through September 2010.

Cindy Resman defends saying that only 0.01 % of adverse effects have been noted which is in the case of most of the drugs. He also adds that his physicians are aware of this fact.

It has also been stated that oral medications do not work in severe conditions and hence the necessity to take these refills occurs.

Neither are the researchers very curious about these drugs nor are they sure if these refills can deliver long-term results.

Previously these refills were used in case of cancer and post-operative pain, but these many have started in taking it for chronic back pain.

It has also been considered that these drugs do not consist of narcotics that the other pain reliefs that we consume consist of. Thus, these refills which are injected directly into the back can provide immediate relief.

The Cialis case is Lost by the Vanderbilt

The appeal by Vanderbilt was rejected by the U.S Supreme Court on January 24th, Monday. This case fought by Vanderbilt against ICOS (The International Council On Security and Development) regarding the joint inventor ship of the three other Vanderbilt scientists who were Dr. Jackie Corbin, Dr. Sharron Francis and Dr. Sekhar Konjeti. The ICOS were the ones who held these patents for the Cialis.

It has been said that these scientists were working on this project before ICOS started handling it. These scientists were working on that when GLAXO was in charge of the project.

Before the Supreme Court rejected the hearing, this case was lost by Vanderbilt in the district and the Appellate court. These scientists were disappointed with the hearing as they expected that even thought the lower courts were against them, they would get justice at the Supreme Court.

Leona Marx, the Associate Counsel at Vanderbilt’s Office of General Counsel said that the Corbin, Francis and Konjeti were the inventories of this drug Cialis as they were the ones who developed it in the initial stage. They stated that’s they have given them a lot of information to GLAXO both face to face and written. They told them about the PDE – 5 inhibitor that could aid one in curbing impotence.

However Marx is not further going to try and appeal it again. He states that the decision of Supreme Court is full and final.

Increased Usage of Prescription Drugs in Teens

There is a significant rise in the number of teens going for prescription drugs is what the report says. One among every 4 kids is habituated to consuming prescription drugs. “Are you kidding?” is the question that might pop in your head but then it is a fact. It is a serious issue and immediately needs to be rectified.

It has been noticed that the kids have been consuming pills for innumerable reasons that cater from cold and cough to blood pressure and diabetes. Around 5.5 million kids (below 19) have been undergoing medication for hypertension last year. The other most appalling fact is that they have been suffering from heartburn at this age and are even undergoing treatment for that.

Increasing obesity among kids might be a major reason for this prevailing heartburn in kids.
There is no convincing reason why a 12 year old boy should go for a sleeping pill or 14 year old girl having a weight –loss pill. Sex - the second biggest concern followed by beauty among teens. Although pills like viagra and cialis are not sex booster, more and more teens are taking it. Are the exams, pressure in schools or the increasing competition responsible for kids losing sleep? When it comes to kids consuming weight loss pills and other pills that are beauty-oriented, have the kids become conscious or are they silly enough to take risks with their life?

My next question is what are the parents doing? Since they are prescription drugs, I assume that the parents must be aware of the kids consuming these tablets. When they are aware of the kids consuming such tablets, is it that they are careless or do they lack knowledge about the harmful effects it can have on kids?

Let the kids have their own share of fun, mischievousness and innocence. We quickly need to take steps first in terms of understanding and analyzing their problem and secondly trying them to keep them away from such pills and drugs.

Heart Disease Treatment will Triple in 30 Years

According to a new medical study, it has been forecasted the rates for treating various heart diseases in U.S.A would triple in the next 20 years. This doesn’t seem like a very good news. The study which was was published by Journal of the American Heart Association, has disclosed the total yearly cost for the treatment of heart diseases, which includes coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, heart failure, and other ailements, will triple by the year 2030. It will increase from $273 billion to $818 billion.

Surveys tell us that the overall medical expenditures of US are termed as the highest in the world. It hit about 15 percent of the gross domestic product in the year 2008.

The researchers first calculated the current rates of diseases and they then applied it to the estimates of the population suggested by the data of the census in order to make the forecast. The Researchers did not assume any major changes in the treatment methods.

At present, around 36.9 percent of the people in US are struck by atleast some form of heart disease. It is estimated that by the year 2030, about 40.5 percent, or you can say about 116 million people will be affected by heart disorders. This is what the study says. It is forcasted that the cases of heart failure and stroke will rise by about 25 percent. This is indeed an alarming issue.

It also says with precision that Hypertension would be the most expensive ailment to treat, due of its prevalence. It ahs been seen that hypertension often leads to a possible coronary heart disease, stroke and heart failure.

But If there is a shortage of doctors or nurses, then the overall costs of treatment could go even higher. They also said that Diabetes and Anxiety rates could also increase in the coming years.

Sextacy, A Deadly Mix of Viagra and Ecstasy on The Wave

The police department at Calgary is saying that drugs like Viagra are being sold on the streets by combining it with Ecstasy. These Anti-Impotence drugs have attracted the attention of criminals who are finding this mix very lucrative. Drugs like Viagra and Cialis are often stolen from most drugstore heists, because the market for an illegal combination of Viagra pills and ecstasy seems to be booming on an underground level.

Apart from ed drug Viagra (or Cialis) has many other health benefits (such as it improves heart performance as Viagra dilates blood capillaries)

The Sgt who is in charge of such cases says that “ People are looking out to mix any kind of drug in order to get a high, so it wont be surprise if they make a combo of ecstasy and pills like Viagra to stimulate themselves”. Some people are labeling this mix as ‘sextacy”. Ecstasy is a very potent and illegal drug used at parties and it is known to give you a great high and Viagra gives you that good staying power.

This is the reason why people are mixing both these drugs to attain a heightened feeling. The police have said that Anti-impotence drugs are very powerful and a person using it illegally can harm his own health on a dangerous level. Such drugs should be taken only on the prescription of a doctor.

Office Hanson says “This problem of the trafficking of the pharmaceutical drugs is quite a concern for us because it can be dangerous for the user in many ways. Though I am yet to come across such cases, but the demand for such drugs in the illegal trade is pretty much high and the people will buy any drug to enhance their senses.”
