Study: Weight Loss Surgery Highly Effective To Cure Diabetes, Obesity

Diabetes is right now amongst top ten disorders responsible to cause death in USA. If CDCP (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) is to be believed then USA will have one third of its population leaving with diabetes by 2050.

Results of numerous research studies have indicated internal link between several diseases. Those diseases/disorders/health conditions are high cholesterol level, obesity, blood pressure, erectile dysfunction, cardiovascular disease and stroke. The group has got new member, diabetes. Keeping obesity's link with diabetes in mind, a new term is being tossed around in health community - Diabesity.

A latest finding suggests bariatric surgery (weight loss surgery) as a way to cope up Diabesity before it becomes nationwide epidemic like obesity. Diabetes completely changes one's life as it may lead to Glaucoma blindness or amputation (in case of severe diabetics). The study has been published on reputed journal, New England Journal of Medicine.

Read the story here http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa1200111

Please check this to see effect of surgery (the blog has nothing to do with research study, it is just for reference)

Within couple of weeks, post weight loss surgery, patients were allowed to stop taking diabetes medicines such as Prandin or Amaryl or Actoplus Met. After 2 years diabetes was found remitted by 75% to 95% in patients who had weight loss surgery - found in two clinical trials.

That concludes weight loss surgery is one of the diabetes treatments with highest efficacy. No other treatment (be it drug treatment or surgical therapy) is near to bariatric surgery when it comes to rate of improvement. Other complications caused because of diabetes such as blood pressure, sleep disorder, asthma, arthritis and abnormal cholesterol level were found receding after the surgery, the study added further.

However, experts do not consider the surgery as one stop solution to cure obesity and diabetes. Patients are advised to undergo surgery as a small step to further improve quality of life. With that being said, exercise; proper diet; lifestyle amendment, will be remain essential parts of diabetes treatment regimen, at least in near future.

Taking Aspirin Daily Good for Bowel Cancer Patients

Research study has found reduction in death caused by bowel cancer if patient takes aspirin every day. The study result has been presented at British Journal of Cancer.

The study included examination of 4,500 patients of bowel cancer.

All patients were on aspirin 80mg tablet. Aspirin is analgesic pain killer and is usually prescribed to heart patients for daily use.

Despite positive result of aspirin's effect, experts are not ready to prescribe the drug to bowel cancer patients any time soon.

Plenty of research studies have found aspirin helpful in preventing cancers of initial stage. Recent findings have also backed result of previous studies - Aspirin could work well to prevent spread of cancer if included in cancer therapy.

However, grave side effects of Aspirin - such as internal bleeding and irritation in stomach - undermine its good effects, believes expert.

4,500 bowel cancer patients were inspected for almost 10 years. 25% of the patients were not taking aspirin, 25% patients started taking aspirin after diagnosis of bowel cancer and rest of the patients were on aspirin before and after they were diagnosed with cancer.

Patients were taking aspirin, post cardiovascular event, as a part of the treatment to prevent future heart disease and stroke.

Aspirin found to reduce bowel cancer death by 23% regardless of the time span aspirin was taken. Chances to die from bowel cancer were 30% less for those who took aspirin standard dose for 9 months after cancer diagnosis.

Administration of aspirin only after cancer diagnosis was more effective than taking aspirin before and after diagnosis. The reason assumed for this is that people who took aspirin before bowel cancer diagnosis might had stubborn tumor.

Dr Gerrit-Jan Liefers is lead author of the study. Dr Leifers is a scientist at Leiden University Medical Centre.

Prostate Treatment without Sexual Side Effects

A new device to treat prostate enlargement is claimed to have been zero-side effects treatment. Any available treatment ( Drug treatment such as Proscar or surgery) cause erectile dysfunction in men and sexual dysfunction in women. Dr Allen, founder of UK based Fine Treatment, has developed the device which treats mal functioning of prostate.

The device is Thermobalancing Therapy and is comprised of two basic parts namely; thermo-element and soft belt. Research studies have linked prostate surgery and drug treatment to cause impotence. Unlike other prostate treatment, the device does not cause impotence because of the way device work. In fact, Fine Treatment terms the device being natural therapy. Efficacy of the device is much higher as it keeps running 24*7 as long as it is applied. The device is to be worn on back side where prostate gland is located.

How Prostate Disorder Affect?

Mal functioning of Prostate is closely related to sexual problem and hair loss. A drug called Propecia approved by FDA for the treatment of Bening Prostate Hyperplasia causes irreversible impotence, abnormal ejaculation. Propecia is alos approved for hair loss. Sexual problems have been reported from men taking Propecia for hair loss. Propecia and Proscar contains Finasteride. FDA has recently issued drug safety warning for Finasteride. Moreover, a research study has confirmed that erectile dysfunction causes cardiovascular disease.

Good functioning of prostate ensures healthy sex life and good hair growth.

In surgery, prostate is removed from body which adversely affect nerves (located near it) responsible for erection. As a result of it, men faced problems such as lack of erection or maintaining erection for sexual intercourse. Many men are taking Viagra post prostate surgery for proper erection.

FDA Safety Warning: Blood Clot Risk with Drospirenone Contraceptives

FDA has issued safty notice for women who are taking drospirenone birth control pills. Keeping latest study results in mind FDA has urged gynecologists and physicians to reckon the risk of Drospirenone while prescribing oral contraceptive pills. FDA has also asked manufacturer of those pills to update drug label.

Oral contraceptive pills that contain Drospirenone have been found to increase blood clotting events. Blood clotting is an essential process in body system. The process helps to heal wounds and stop bleeding by clotting blood at the site of wound.

But, the same process poses threat to life when it occurs in blood carrying veins and capillaries. Unnecessary blood clots in capillaries obstruct blood flow which eventually leads to stroke and heart diseases such as cardiac arrest, heart attack.

Dropirenone is widely used in combination birth control pills. It is synthesized progesterone. Studies, conducted by FDA itself, reported increased risk of blood clotting in people who were taking drospirenone was 3 times greater than those who were taking other contraceptive pills. FDA has revised its drug label and safty information pills that contain drospirenone.

FDA Warning: France T253, Stree Overlord, AfricanBlackAnt

FDA US has issued warning against three products for the treatment of sexual dysfunction in women and erectile dysfunction in men. The three products are France T253, Stree Overloard and African Black Ant.

Both France T253 and Stree Overlord contains sildenafil citrate, said FDA in warning. African Black Ant contains Tadalafil, according to FDA. Sildenafil Citrate is main chemical compound used in Viagra and Tadalafil is used in Cialis. Any medicine that contains Sildenafil or Tadalafil is called generic Viagra and generic Cialis respectively. So, France T253 and Stree Overlord are nothing but Viagra.

A websites that promote and sell African Black Ant listed various ingredients except Sildenafil Citrate. Listed ingredients of black ant are caterpillar fungus, saffron, deer penis, lotus, fur seal penis, tibetan yak testis and hippocampus. The promoter of so called "sexual enhancement" did not deliberately mentioned Tadalafil and/or Sildenafil.

Marketing website of Stree Overlord misguided consumers using false story of Japanese figher Stree.

France T253 promoters tried to capitalised desperation of impotence patients by claiming their product not only boost sexual abilities but also has significant effect on kidney, heart, reversing age, blood. But, a cross investigation by FDA found that it is nothing but sildenafil citrate drug.

People are recommended not to use these products anymore. People who have used these three products are advised to go through side effects of Sildenafil and Tadalafil drug to avoid any health problem.

Patients who are taking nitrate drug as a part of treatment of hypertension or high blood pressure, diabetes, heart diseases must not use those products.
Does France T253 work? Does Stree Overlord Work? Does African Black Ant work? These three products just work like generic Viagra and Cialis.

A prevailing belief (a misbelief rather) is that a girl who has not had her first period cannot get pregnant even with unprotected sex. That is completely wrong. The only relation between period, sex and pregnancy is having sex before period increases likelihood of pregnancy. Pre period time is most fertile time for having kids. Indications of pregnancy if no-period are after having sex, spotting and bleeding

What is Period?

Period is shedding of skin membrane located inside vagina. The skin membrane is medically known as endometrium. This occurs every month. Some females have irregular period.

First period of a girl is called Menarche. Menarche is indication of capability of reproduction for girls and ejaculation for boys.

Average age of having first period is 12-13. But in some cases period has been reported quite early age. A Peruvian girl had her first period at age 3.

As long as pregnancy is concerned period is just highly fertile time. So what causes pregnancy? Ovulation is key process for pregnancy.

What is Ovulation?

Ovulation is about producing female egg. Ovary releases egg, those eggs pass in the fallopian tube to be fertilized. The eggs get fertilized by male cells called sperm. A girl may not have first period but, she might already be ovulating. If ovulation is there girl of any age can get pregnant.

What age a girl starts Ovulating?

This largly depend on biology and hormonal changes of girl. Hormonal changes triggers puberty. So, it is assumed that a girl starts ovulating with puberty.

How Does Pregnancy Occur?

Ejaculation by male within vagina is first step of pregnancy. Sperm fertilizes female eggs located within fallopian tube (generally known as vagina). Sperm cells can stay inside vagina for upto five days. So, sex five days before and after ovulation can make girl pregnant.

How to prevent pregnancy?

Use of condom is best bet for avoiding unintended pregnancy. Other methods are birth control pills (also known as contraceptive pills). There are number of birth control pills available. Plan B is emergency contraceptive. Generic Alesse, Depo-provera and generic Yasmin are popular birth control pills.

[Note: All birth control pills have different time to take because all the pills have different formulation and combination]

Sexual Dysfunction Likely in Women after Dialysis, says Studies

Dialysis for the treatment of renal impairment (kidney failure) in female may affect their sexual life, say experts. Recent research study found 4 of 5 female on dialysis had sexual dysfunction.

Dialysis has several side effects such as depression drugs, sleep disorder, pain and tiredness. Sexual dysfunction is latest side effect added in the list. Like chemotherapy, dialysis also affects one's quality of living.

However, how exactly dialysis cause sexual dysfunction is subject of further and dedicated study.

Lot of studies has been done on sexual health of men post hemodialysis. Ironically, few handful studies are there for females.

Dr Giovanni Strippoli and experts from Collaborative Depression and Sexual Dysfunction in Hemodialysis Working Group conducted study on 659 females who were on dialysis. Dr Strippoli inspected answers given by those women in a question paper. Questions were on changes they noticed in their sexual life post dialysis. Dr Strippoli is MD from Diaverum AB and Consorzio Mario Negri Sud, Italy.

Some participated women were sexually active, some were not and some had no partner for sexual activities. Sexual dysfunction was reported in 84% of all females, 55% of sexually active and none for women without partner.

The study is believed to be first of its kind at large scale which is focused to study sexual dysfunction in women after dialysis.

Further analysis found that likelihood of sexual dysfunction is more for old women, depressive women, women who passed menopause phase, diabetic women and women who took diuretic pills.

This is quite relieving result for women who are HIV positive and also pregnant. The study result presented at Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections, Seattle, America. read study details here.

HIV Pregnancy Treatment

ARV therapy or Antiretroviral therapy (anti HIV drugs are called antiRetroviral drugs) reduces Mother-to-child transmission of HIV virus. In past, research studies on mother to child transmission, showed that 19% babies born with HCV to mother infected with both HIV and HCV viruses. 2% to 5% babies born with HCV to mother with HCV infection only. It is not known whether modern HIV treatment prevents MTCT for HCV virus. Past studies on transmission of virus to child from mother were conducted when ARV therapy was not widely used in women with HIV and HCV viruses.

The study has been conducted by Dr Claudia Checa Cabot and her team members. Dr Cabot is an MD at National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD). Treating HIV infection in women with hepatitis C and HIV virus may reduce transmission of both viruses in baby.

Dr Cabot took data from another study conducted between 2002 to 2008 called 'Perinatal and Longitudinal Study in Latin American Countries'.

Usefulness of Testosterone Pellet Implant Therapy (Replacement Therapy)

Pellet therapy is almost a century old therapy. The therapy is about delivering hormones, identical to human hormones, in body by means of tiny pellets. However, it is not that much wide spread as FDA is consistantly not andorsing this therapy.

Approved Testosterone Implant Therapy

A testosterone hormone therapy (or androgen therapy) named as Testopel® was approved by FDA as a replacement therapy for treating testosterone deficiency. Testopel® pellet therapy rapidly became popular for its efficacy. It was approved by FDA for men only.

Usefulness of Testosterone

Testosterone is major androgen steroid hormone. In both males and females, testosterone is found to improve energy, lower anxiety, relieve stress and depression, improve brain functions such as concentration and memory. Since testosterone plays important role in female, the pellet implant found helpful in general vaginal disorders such as dryness. The therapy has good track record of treating migraine in men and headaches in female during period. Testosterone is vital for proportionate development of mental and physical health in both men and women.

Testosterone Pellet Implant Therapy

Testosterone pellet implant is believed to be helpful in treating erectile dysfunction with minimal side effects (no need to take viagra®). Low testosterone level is linked to Alzheimer's diseases. So, testosterone replacement therapy is likely to treat alzheimer's also.

Low testosterone adversely affects libido in men both men and women. Imbalance in testosterone level is usually found in obese. This is because body mass and fat mass are both monitored by level of testosterone.

How Testosterone Pellet Implant is Done?

Pellet implant is least painful invasive therapy. Testosterone is delivered by inserting pellets in upper side of hip. The part of insertion is numbed by giving local anesthesia. Pellets are of wheat bean size. The procedure can be carried out in-house.

Research Study on Pellet Implant Therapy

A reputed journal published research study which involved male patients who had had testosterone pellet therapy between 2003 to 2008. The study found 86% patients happy and satisfied with the improvement after receiving pellet implant therapy. More importantly, no patients were having side effects.

Study: Drugs from Credentialed Online Pharmacy are of Good Quality

Wall Street Journal has reviewed several documents which indicted two canadian citizens involved in importing fake breast cancer drug in U.S. This event has sparked debate on authenticity of generic drug bought from online pharmacies. Millions of Americans buy prescription generic drugs online to cut drug cost.

A latest research study by Roger Bate concluded that generics from internet pharmacies are of good quality if purchased from credentialed pharmacies. Mr Bate is lead author of the study who also happens to be influential expert on pharmaceutical counterfeiting at American Enterprise Institute.

A research study of 370 brand drugs ordered from online pharmacies concluded that Viagra purchased by Americans were not real Viagra, however, medicines were found to be authentic when credentialed by several organizations.

This led to author believed that such websites are sometimes, if not all the time, selling medicines of good quality.

FDA and pharmaceutical gianst are increasingly concerned on counterfeit drugs, they have warned againts purchasing poor quality drugs from online pharmacy saying that may put one's health at risk. The study result contradicts their concerns.

Groups who oppose online pharmacies cite several reasons to convince consumers not to order from online pharmacies. Some of the reasons are; pharmacies get away with your credit card details, buying without prescription is illegal, they don't ask for prescriptions.

Another study conducted in 2007 found only 6 percent patients buy medicines with prescriptions. But that seems to be another point that patients go for internet pharmacies.
