Cholesterol Lowering Drugs May not Benefit Low-Risk Patients

There is some news for all those folks who are on a prescription of drugs which lowers the cholesterol levels. It has been found by researchers that such drugs do very little to the health of people who are already maintaining their health in a good and balanced way. The studies that were conducted found out, that drugs such as Crestor and Lipitor, which are very helpful in reducing the death rates in patients of high risk observed that such pills do not help people much who are at a very low risk of contracting a heart disease.

Not only that, it has been said that these medications have been linked to some side effects pertaining to the liver, kidney and also the weakness of the muscles. Clinical Trials were conducted of about 34,000 patients and it concluded that the use of Statins should be limited to people with no previous cardiovascular disease complication.

Medical experts have said the side effects of Statins have come to the fore recently and they should be taken into account with proper care and understanding. But Drag Manufacturers like Pfizer have to say that their pills, like Lipitor have been tested on various people and these drugs are very safe to use. They also say that these pills are highly effective.

Detailed Research by US Health Organizations tells us that more than 80 million of the people of US have some sort of cardiovascular problem and one in every 3 deaths is due to this concerning problem. This is really an alarming issue and measures should be taken to resolve this issue.
