Birth defects in children connected to the mother’s medications

The birth defects in many children have been linked to the consumption of the medications that the mother might have intaken during pregnancy is what the latest research says. When the risk percentage is 2000%, it surely seems to be a concerning issue. The medications that are as of now blamed for the same are the Johnson’s & Johnson’s and the Topamax.

It has been said that the women who consumed these medications have children with defects like cleft clip or cleft palate according to the new data released by the US Food And Drug Administration. Topamax has been prescribed for the ones who have migraine problems these days unlike before when they were prescribed the medications for migraine and epilepsy.

The reports made it evident that there were babies with approximately 1.4 % as compared to the usual 0.07 % birth defects in children when mothers who did not intake any medication.
There was a warning that was granted to the doctors where they were asked to be more vigilant and cautious whenever they prescribed Topamax to the pregnant women says Russell Katz, the Director of the FDA’s division of Neurological Products. However J& J insists that they have adequate labeling and instruction that is enough for the consumer to be cautious. Later J&J got a green flag and convinced the doctor for its off-label uses against the appeal filed that it was undergoing illegal marketing.
